As I reflect back on my life's journey thus far.... approaching the 7 year anniversary of gaining my 'freedom' after being released from the Military's 'Slavery' Institution.... I'm forever thankful to 'The Most High' for the experience, her Spiritual guidance, protection and enlightenment, as she prepares me for the next chapter of my life.

Lt. Commander promotion ceremony August 1, 2006,
reaffirming my Oath of Office to serve my country.

A heartfelt testimony of my military experience;
rising through the ranks from a deck seaman to lt. commander;
ultimately becoming a targeted Military Whistleblower.

My first published poetry book, a lyrical collection of
inspirational, romantic and erotic poetry, haikus and more.

My second published poetry book;
a beautifully crafted collection of inspirational poetry and prose,
scribed while embarking upon a journey of Spiritual Awakening.

My third published poetry book;
a unique collection of poetry, prose, haikus, proverbs  and more;
scribed while "Coming of Sage," attuning my Spirit, Mind, Body
and Soul with the Soul of the Universe.

Keeping my Spirit grounded
with the Divine Spirit of the Most High.

Still I Rise by Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own back yard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
  I rise.

Kremlin sources say the Clinton campaign “sent their goons to give Jane Sanders the shakedown,” in order to end the Bernie Sanders campaign before the convention, citing evidence from one of 10,000 Hillary emails Putin has in his personal possession.

Your Newswire reports, "Putin: Hacked Emails Reveal That Clinton Threatened Sanders’ Wife...The Clinton campaign needed Bernie Sanders on board before the emails were leaked as they contained evidence that confirmed his suggestions of Democratic establishment bias and would have given him unstoppable momentum heading into the convention – had he chosen to play that game.
However after the meeting with the Clinton team Sanders unexpectedly suspended his previously gung-ho campaign, and although he refused to wholeheartedly endorse her, he signalled to his supporters that his run for President was effectively over.
Kremlin sources have denied the DNC claims that Russian state-sponsored hackers are behind the email leaks, with Julian Assange also stating the DNC claim is a politically motivated “lame conspiracy smear.”
Despite the FBI asking the Kremlin for copies of any emails they have in their possession, it is understood the Kremlin has not released anything to anyone, including Wikileaks.

All I have to say about this, if it is true... "God Does Not Like EVIL!!"

While Donald Trump launches his sexist attacks against Women, his VP running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, would rather attack a Disney animated character, Women in the Military and Plan Parenthood. Is this the best the GOP can do?! And then there’s Hillary Clinton….. God Save Us!!

While Donald Trump’s popularity ratings reached an all-time high at this week’s RNC, he didn’t pass up the chance to spew more Hate from the RNC's center stage.  Meanwhile, his VP running mate, Mike Pence, should have been called to the carpet to express his views on women serving in the military, given the rise in the Military’s Rape and Sexual Assault epidemic… Some may say the Pentagon’s “Integration Experiment” was just as he predicted.  So what’s the Solution?! recently reported, “When Donald Trump’s running mate Mike Pence was a talk radio show host in Indiana, he wrote an op-ed declaring the film Mulan was an attempt by some “mischievous liberal” at Disney to influence the debate over women in the military.

The 1999 op-ed ran on a website for Pence’s radio program that was uncovered by BuzzFeed News.

“Despite her delicate features and voice, Disney expects us to believe that Mulan’s ingenuity and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal basis with her cloddish cohorts,” wrote Pence. “Obviously, this is Walt Disney’s attempt to add childhood expectation to the cultural debate over the role of women in the military.”

“I suspect that some mischievous liberal at Disney assumes that Mulan’s story will cause a quiet change in the next generation’s attitude about women in combat and they just might be right,” Pence continued. “(Just think about how often we think of Bambi every time the subject of deer hunting comes into the mainstream media debate.)”

Disney’s film is based on the 6th century Ballad of Mulan.

Pence argues Mulan’s romance with a superior officer proved women cannot serve in the military.

“It is instructive that even in the Disney film, young Ms. Mulan falls in love with her superior officer! Me thinks the politically correct Disney types completely missed the irony of this part of the story,” writes Pence. “They likely added it because it added realism with which the viewer could identify with the characters. You see, now stay with me on this, many young men find many young women to be attractive sexually. Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually. Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting. Just like they eventually did for young Mulan. Moral of story: women in military, bad idea.”

Here’s the full text and a picture of the column on the site:

Just spent a memorable Fathers Day, like so many other all American Hoosier dads, with my kids at the new Disney film entitled, “Mulan”.

For those who have not yet been victimized by the McDonald’s induced hysteria over this film, Mulan is a fictional account of a delicate girl of the same name who surreptitiously takes her fathers place in the Chinese army in one of their ancient wars against the Huns. Despite her delicate features and voice, Disney expects us to believe that Mulan’s ingenuity and courage were enough to carry her to military success on an equal basis with her cloddish cohorts. Obviously, this is Walt Disney’s attempt to add childhood expectation to the cultural debate over the role of women in the military. I suspect that some mischievous liberal at Disney assumes that Mulan’s story will cause a quiet change in the next generation’s attitude about women in combat and they just might be right. (Just think about how often we think of Bambi every time the subject of deer hunting comes into the mainstream media debate.)

The only problem with this liberal hope is the reality which intrudes on the Disney ideal from the mornings headlines. From the original “Tailhook” scandal involving scores of high ranking navy fighter pilots who molested subordinate women to the latest travesty at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, the hard truth of our experiment with gender integration is that is has been an almost complete disaster for the military and for many of the individual women involved. When Indiana Congressman Steve Buyer was appointed to investigate the Aberdeen mess, he shocked the public with the revelation that young, nubile, 18 year old men and women were actually being HOUSED together during basic training. Whatever bone head came up with this idea should be run out of this man’s Army before sundown. Housing, in close quarters, young men and women (in some cases married to non-military personnel) at the height of their physical and sexual potential is the height of stupidity. It is instructive that even in the Disney film, young Ms. Mulan falls in love with her superior officer! Me thinks the politically correct Disney types completely missed the irony of this part of the story. They likely added it because it added realism with which the viewer could identify with the characters. You see, now stay with me on this, many young men find many young women to be attractive sexually. Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually. Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting. Just like they eventually did for young Mulan. Moral of story: women in military, bad idea.

For those not familiar with the movie, which is one of my favorite Disney movies, here’s a brief summary:

Fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, Mulan (Ming-Na Wen) takes his spot – though, as a girl living under a patriarchal regime, she is technically unqualified to serve.  She cleverly impersonates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits.  Accompanied by her dragon, Mushu (Eddie Murphy), she uses her smarts to help ward off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.

As a former African American female Naval Officer who rose from the enlisted ranks as a Deck Seaman to achieve the rank of Lt. Commander Supply Corps Officer, while serving in the most racist organization across all branches of our Armed Forces, I'm living proof that women can be successful while rising through the ranks of our misogynistic military. For those of us that survived to tell of our experiences, our battle scars speak for themselves and several Veterans have written memoirs or worked with movie producers to tell our stories. In my memoir,"Broken Silence, A Military Whistleblower's Fight for Justice," I outline nearly every detail of my trials, tribulations and triumphs.

Despite Pence's attacks against a fictional character, in my view, there are not enough inspirational movies like Mulan, created to inspire our young girls to be determined leaders, strong willed and “fight” if necessary, to protect our equal rights as well as defend our country, which is exactly why I decided to join the Navy after graduating high school.  My late father and Uncle were military Veterans, as well as a close cousin. For many young girls, like Mulan, we have the right to carry out a family tradition.  Isn't that what Trump instills in his children?!

Shame on the state of Indiana for electing Pence as governor and he is clearly a "Bad Idea" for Donald Trump’s VP pick.

On March 30, 1980, two months after he took office,
President Reagan was shot by John W. Hinckley Jr. in an assassination attempt.

Yet senior members of the GOP have made it perfectly clear how they feel about Donald Trump serving as President and I pray we don’t have another “Regan incident" should he prove to be a larger threat and disappointment if elected.  In the interim, I’m certain Pence is well prepared to carry out the Grand Old Party’s misogynistic agenda from the White House.

Had I known I was joining the military as a part of a “government experiment” I would have pursued a career in Law or journalism instead of wasting 20 years of my early adult life being a part of a Pentagon test study.  I did not sign up for that and I’m sure the thousands of men and women who endured Civil and Human Rights violations as a result of the Pentagon’s “FAILED” experiment (according to Pence) did not agree to be subjected to “Rape, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Discrimination, Retaliation, and in the case of PFC Lavena Johnson, Murder!!

While our politicians sit back and watch the Pentagon work out the kinks of the military's integration experiments, I pray President Obama issues a Human Rights Protection Bill before the next phase of their test study begins... Yet it appears to be well on its way, telling by the recent lift on the military's Gay ban and support of transgender equal rights, over improving Women's equality in the Armed Forces.   Are we missing something here with Grand Old Party’s agenda?!!  It appears that some things never change...  While the GOP pursue their desires to “Make America Great Again.”

It appears that Mike Pence shares the same sentiments about women as his running mate, Donald Trump..... I have one question for the GOP's "T"op "P"ick?!

Today is "Nelson Mandela International Day, in celebration of his Birthday." Happy Birthday!!!

Oh’ Mother Africa
(Dedicated to the legacy of Nelson Mandela)
© 2013 Syneeda Penland

Oh Mother Africa,
let me hear your cry.
As we celebrate
the life of your beloved son,
as we long to say good bye.

Standing steadfast in the midst
of your great divide,
liberating the souls of your children,
leading their spirits to freedom,
during the wrath of your apartheid.

Freeing your children
from the bonds of mental slavery;
inspiring them to believe in you,
their heritage, throughout their quest for liberty.

Oh’ Mother Africa,
how you weep the loss of your beloved son;
be proud of his immeasurable deeds,
knowing that his work is never done.

His legacy reached far beyond the shores
of your magnificent ivory coast,
to the hearts and souls of your
African-American children,
where you are loved the most.

Oh’ Mother Africa,
as you lay your son to rest,
cradle him in your earthly bosom,
knowing that he has done his best!

SALON reports, "Military Violence and Scandal: We Need a Public Discussion of the Sexual Assault Epidemic in our Armed Forces."

“The understandable and natural impulse to honor sacrifice, and award valor, has mutated into a cover story for high levels of violence against innocent people, especially women. It has become nearly impossible to travel anywhere in the United States, or go a few days, without hearing maudlin amplification of tributes to the “heroes” of the American military. Many active duty servicemen and women, and combat veterans, are certainly worthy of praise and gratitude, but the insistence on treating every current and former military member as a secular god, as ritual in the ongoing glorification of the military, allows horrific problems of rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence to fester and bleed.

The tragic irony is that the victims of America’s societal negligence on military scandals are military members themselves, along with the closely related group who sacrifice in silence – military family members.

It is hardly a surprise that the television media has emphasized Micah Johnson’s connections with black militancy, rather than his status as an Army veteran. Clearly, Johnson was not a good representation of the military, and he was not the typical veteran. There are millions of veterans in the United States, and the problem with assigning the honorific “hero” to each one is that it denies the human and historical reality that any collection of people – large or small – usually contains the ethical and the evil; the kind and the cruel. Johnson, because of his slaughter of innocent people, is among the worst of the worst, but there are elements of his past that, as uncomfortable as it makes people, are not foreign to American military culture.

Those elements deserve scrutiny, rather than shadowing. The need for an honest evaluation of the military’s flaws and failures becomes an imperative for those with a sincere and substantive desire to “support the troops.”

Superiors of Johnson accused the deceased murderer of “egregious sexual harassment,” while he was serving deployment in Afghanistan. They recommended he receive a dishonorable discharge, but for reasons unknown to them, he left the military with an honorable discharge. Sexual harassment, and even assault, is a crime familiar to many women veterans, and the consistent ability of assailants to escape any and all consequences for their sinister acts of sadism, is a continual source of suffering for women who have already endured pain and trauma.

Recent research from the Department of Veterans Affairs indicates that two out of every five military women experience sexual trauma during service. An inquiry into the crisis of sexual assault from former Congresswoman Jane Harman found that in one California veterans hospital, four out of every ten women were raped by fellow soldiers. When sexual violence against men becomes part of the calculus, there are an estimated 38 rapes in the military every single day. Following the physical assault, there is often a bureaucratic rape of emotional and mental health. The RAND Corporation discovered that 62 percent of women who reported their victimization to military superiors experienced professional and social retaliation.

Public discussion of the sexual assault epidemic in the military is rarely audible over the cacophony of phony patriotic imbecility, disguised as indignation. The cheap “How dare you criticize our heroes” sentimentality deflects attention away from the reality that “our heroes” are the ones whose lives undergo destruction at the hands of the minority of sexual predators in the military, and the institutional bias and corruption shielding them from punishment. Genuine patriotism would provide protection for the military members who, in their voluntary duty, experience the worst form of violent and bureaucratic betrayal….”

Food for thought:

It appears the debate on the Military’s Rape and Sexual Assault Epidemic is circling around again.  Let’s hope this time around it gains enough momentum to properly address ongoing Civil Rights and Human Rights violations committed against our service members, for decades!!

This issue deserves more than mere public discussion, it deserves Concrete Law, to hold senior Pentagon officials accountable for the health, comfort and welfare of ALL personnel assigned to their unit.

Equality is paramount throughout all facets of our daily lives, occupations and especially in the workplace.   No different than the equality message that is being amplified during the ongoing Black Lives Matter Movement; Veterans’ Lives Matter!!! And ALL American citizens deserve blanketed protection under a nationwide Human Rights Law!!

What does “Human Rights Protection” mean to me?!

Human Rights Protection
a prose by Sy’needa Penland © 2015

Human Rights Protection is the preservation of Humanity through Unity, Maturity, Acceptance and forgiveness of all bad deeds from our past and proper Nurturing of the evolution of humankind.

To achieve higher moral standards for our society, we must learn to build stronger Relationships by being more Involved in all facets of life which governs humanity, including respect for Mother Earth.  Through positive Goal setting and fostering a more harmonious mindset towards Helping others, unified as ONE Human Race, it will be easy to achieve. Most importantly, being Thankful for our blessings and promoting the Art of Sharing with others.

Yet we must adopt and practice the idealism that we can achieve Human Rights Protection, beginning in our very own neighborhoods, by rebuilding a solid moral foundation in our homes, thus creating a more loving, peaceful and harmonious environment within our communities.
Proper Parenting is the key.  Teach our children to take full Responsibility for their actions and not to be easily influenced by outside negativity. We must reinforce the importance of Obedience towards our elders and Teach our children the importance of Equality for ALL Humankind, no matter the race, gender, age or national origin.  We must allow Compassion back into our hearts and foster in a more positive and loving moral value system, by creating a more Transparent and peaceful government and society. By Inspiring Optimism for our future and practicing the Art of Fair Negotiation, Justice, Protection and Unification; together as One Human Race we can achieve anything.   Most of all LOVE!!

                                                Goal setting

Will Presidential Hopeful, Donald Trump, Soon Join the Ranks of Other Military Rapists, as the "Top" Commander in Chief?!

The Daily Beasts reports,

The Billionaire Pedophile
Who Could Bring Down
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton

"Trump’s supporters have long wondered whether he’d use billionaire sicko Jeffrey Epstein as ammo against the Clintons—until a lurid new lawsuit accused The Donald of raping one of Epstein’s girls himself.

For Jeffrey Epstein and his famous friends, the Aughts were a simpler time, when the businessmen, academics, and celebrities who counted themselves among the playboy philanthropist’s inner circle could freely enjoy the fruits of his extreme wealth and connections.

Epstein’s little black book and flight logs read like a virtual Who’s Who: Bill Clinton, Donald Trump, Larry Summers, Kevin Spacey, Prince Andrew, and Naomi Campbell all hitched rides on Epstein’s private planes. Socialites and distinguished scientists went to visit Epstein’s island in St. Thomas, and cavorted at epic dinner parties at his palatial townhouse—then the largest privately owned residence in New York, as he liked to brag. There, they picked at elaborate meals catered by celebrity chefs like Rocco DiSpirito, marvelled at Epstein’s opulent decor, and noted the pack of very, very young model-types with whom Epstein always seemed to surround himself.

But a darker story was going on underneath the glamour. In 2008, Epstein was convicted of soliciting sex from an underage girl and quietly paid settlements to scores of alleged victims who said he serially molested them. But the girls kept coming out of the woodwork—in 2014, another young woman filed a lawsuit claiming that Epstein used her as a sex slave for his powerful friends—and that she’d been at parties on his private island with former President Clinton.

And just last week, yet another “Jane Doe” filed a suit in New York accusing Epstein and Donald Trump of raping her at a series of sex parties when she was only 13.

Trump has denied Jane Doe’s claims and his reps have said he barely knew Epstein—even though New York media in the ’90s regularly chronicled his comings-and-goings at Epstein’s Upper East Side palace, and even though Epstein had 14 private numbers for Trump and his family in his little black book. Meanwhile, Bill and Hillary Clinton have remained mum about their ties to the Palm Beach pedophile—despite evidence that shows Bill was one of the most famous and frequent passengers on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” and that Epstein donated money to the Clinton Foundation even after his conviction.

For months, talking heads have wondered whether Trump would use Epstein and his girls as a weapon against Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Now, with the latest federal lawsuit against Trump himself, it seems the notorious financier has become a serious liability for both campaigns...."

I’ve tried my hardest to remain steadfast in the wake of situations surrounding the recent protest movements, but I can’t hold my tongue when it comes to “NOT” ensuring the safety and protection of our children!!

As a former enlisted Sailor serving in our "finest" Navy as a teenager, my fellow coworkers and I were the targets of sexual discrimination and sexual harassment when the Navy conducted a pilot program of integration of Women at Sea.  This was in the late 80s and dozens of young girls were raped and sexually assaulted, even by fellow female colleagues, who were Gay.

As an advocate, I’ve learned to “stay in my lane” in regards to speaking out on certain issues but this one truly disturbed my Spirit!!

How can a man call himself a man if he lowers himself to literally “raping/molesting" an innocent child?!

I don’t buy into the notion that the “Rich and Famous” can enjoy all the spoils of life!!   This is clearly a luxury they’ve created for themselves!!

No wonder the Bible Scriptures WARNED us of this day…

Our "leaders" need to REPENT for their Sins before its too late!!!
