Idaho Republican thinks ‘trauma’ prevents pregnancy in rape: ‘That may be true with incest a little bit’

The Ray reports, "Another Republican lawmaker suggested women and girls are unlikely to become pregnant from rape or incest.

Idaho state Rep. Pete Nielson (R-Mountain Home) spoke up during a hearing Thursday during a legislative hearing to decide whether abortion providers should be required to give patients a list of facilities that offer free ultrasounds, reported The Spokesman-Review.

The measure makes no exceptions for victims of rape or incest, and a clinic manager testified that her center had treated two rape victims — one whom chose to keep her baby and the other who offered her child for adoption.

Nielson expressed his doubts that those pregnancies were medically possible.

“Now, I’m of the understanding that in many cases of rape it does not involve any pregnancy because of the trauma of the incident,” Nielson said. “That may be true with incest a little bit.”

Women’s health advocates attacked the lawmaker’s claims as “absolutely scientifically and medically inaccurate” — and said they also subjected rape victims to doubts about their accusations if they became pregnant as a result of the assault.

But Nielson stood by his claims — even as he admitted he wasn’t sure whether they were accurate.

“That’s information that I’ve had through the years,” he said. “Whether it’s totally accurate or not, I don’t know. In a rape situation, there’s a lot of trauma.”

The lawmaker explained his own interest in the topic.

“I read a lot of information. I have read it several times,” Nielson said. “Being a father of five girls, I’ve explored this a lot.”

The idea that rape is unlikely to result in pregnancy dates back to at least ancient Greece, and it was even written into law in medieval England.

It’s since been proven incorrect by science and medicine, but the notion persists in the minds of some anti-choice Republican legislators.

Idaho state Rep. Vito Barbieri (R-Dalton Gardens), speaking last year before the same legislative committee, asked a physician during an abortion-related hearing whether it would be possible for a woman to swallow a camera to conduct a gynecological exam.

“It cannot be done in pregnancy simply because, when you swallow a pill, it would not end up in the vagina,” said Dr. Julie Madsen, prompting loud laughter from within the chamber.

Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) doomed his U.S. Senate bid in 2012 when he suggested that victims of “legitimate rape” would not likely become pregnant because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

His absurd comments requires no public debate!! SMDH.....

Let's face it, who is most likely to rape someone and/or engage in incestuous behavior. Case Closed!!

I think every member of Congress over the age of 65 should be required to undergo a mandatory psychiatric evaluation and the outcome should be made known to the public. After all they are elected and PAID to represent the best interest of the people.

The majority of these assholes are misogynists and should be disqualified due to their insistence on attacking women with unfair legislation. This is one of the worse human rights violations against women of all time.

Guys, REALLY?!!!!!

It is time we demand "age and term restrictions" and equal seats of male and female Representatives. Our government needs to be balanced and it starts with being fair!!

Sex for career advancement: Navy says commander propositioned subordinate

Navy Times recently reported, "The commander of a multi-billion dollar American warship was fired on the eve of its Middle East deployment last year after a drunken night out with his subordinates led to allegations of sexual harassment, Navy Times has learned.
Capt. Brian Sorenson’s 25-year military career began to unravel Aug. 30, when he and several junior officers assigned to the cruiser Anzio attended a "wetting down" party at a bar in Yorktown, Virginia. He is accused of engaging in a highly inappropriate conversation with a woman who worked for him, allegedly propositioning her for sex in exchange for career advancement, according to a Navy investigation report obtained Thursday via the Freedom of Information Act.
The report also includes allegations from a female officer who told investigators that Sorenson grabbed her buttocks while they were in the bar. It is unclear if the complaint was made by the same woman or another, as the Navy's report is heavily redacted.
Last month, Sorenson was found guilty of violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice. An admiral has recommended the captain be separated from the service.
Reached by email, Sorenson declined to comment on the Navy's report. His attorney, Greg McCormack, provided a brief statement to Navy Times indicating the captain intends to appeal his case.
“Capt. Sorenson has an exemplary service record and has provided 25 years of outstanding naval service to our country,” McCormack said. “We look forward to this legal process, which will provide a forum for the truth to prevail.”
The Navy's investigation was conducted by Carrier Strike Group 8, Anzio's parent command. The ship and its crew of about 350 are in the Middle East currently as part of the Truman carrier strike group. They are tasked with providing air defense for the aircraft carrier.
According to the Navy's report, the woman with whom Sorenson allegedly sought to have sex was nearing the deadline to receive her surface warfare officer qualification. She told investigators that the day after their group outing in Yorktown, Sorenson sat her down in his cabin and asked her if she would sleep with him in exchange for her SWO pin, a Navy uniform device that denotes an officer has achieved all basic qualifications required of the service's surface warfare community.
The woman's name is redacted in the report. As a rule, Navy Times does not identify the alleged victims of sexual assault or harassment."
Food for thought:  This is common behavior in Navy Wardrooms, "Sex in exchange for career advancement opportunities." Yet I'm glad the junior officer reported the CO's abusive and sexually aggressive behavior.
During my department head tour aboard the USS Stout, I was forced to serve as the only female for an entire year because of the sexual indiscretions of the former CO. After he was relieved for cause months after my arrival, it was alleged that he'd carried on affairs with several junior officers.
On one occasion I was present during one of his mistress'  (JO) SWO board and it was obvious that she'd been "promised" her SWO pin. Every department head agreed that she'd done poorly but a few days later we were called to the Wardroom for her pinning?!!    The JO later told me that she and the CO had been romantically involved for over a year.
After the final transfer of the female SWO JOs, the Executive Officer refused to request that BUPERS order female SWOs to fill their billets.  The experience was one of the worse of my entire career because I was forced to endure racism and sexism for the remainder of my tour.   And of course the more senior I got, the more I would endure racism and sexism.  I think it's a Navy thing!!

Giving Thanks to Pisces Full Moon

by Fyodor Ivanovich Tyutchev

Speak not, lie hidden, and conceal
the way you dream, the things you feel.
Deep in your spirit let them rise
akin to stars in crystal skies
that set before the night is blurred:
delight in them and speak no word.
How can a heart expression find?
How should another know your mind?
Will he discern what quickens you?
A thought once uttered is untrue.
Dimmed is the fountainhead when stirred:
drink at the source and speak no word.
Live in your inner self alone
within your soul a world has grown,
the magic of veiled thoughts that might
be blinded by the outer light,
drowned in the noise of day, unheard...
take in their song and speak no word.

Dick Cheney Poisoned Hundreds of US Troops in Iraq — They’re Dying — And the Media is Silent

The Free Thought reports -- "The legacy of death and misery from the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan continues today, and, once again, Dick Cheney plays a central role.  A new book by Joseph Hickman, a former U.S. Marine and Army sergeant, titled “The Burn Pits: The Poisoning of America’s Soldiers” details how soldiers and local civilian populations were exposed to constant streams of toxic smoke from the burning of waste.

The infamous Kellog, Brown, and Root (KBR), which was a part of Dick Cheney’s corporate empire under Halliburton, operated about 250 burn pits which contributed to the $40 billion that Halliburton made during the Iraq occupation“Every type of waste imaginable” was burned, including “tires, lithium batteries, asbestos insulation, pesticide containers, Styrofoam, metals, paints, plastic, medical waste and even human corpses.”

This reprehensible practice proves yet again that nothing is sacred when it comes to the military machine.

Just as the U.S. laid waste to Vietnam’s human health and jungle environment with Agent Orange, it wrecked human health and environmental quality in Iraq. That country will suffer from this toxicity for decades, as evidenced by sharp increases in birth defects and cancer and leukemia rates.
Likewise, U.S. veterans and their families are bearing the brunt of this travesty.
The Burn Pits: The Poisoning of America’s Soldiers” begins with the story of a healthy young soldier sent to Iraq who was constantly exposed to smoke from burn pits. When he returned home with respiratory problems, the Veterans Administration (VA) denied him care, and he later developed brain cancer and died.
Those who do survive are having children with birth defects at a rate three times higher than normal, according to the book. The denial of medical coverage by the VA for burn pit-related illnesses is a central strategy in denying that burn pits even posed a health hazard.

Beau Biden, the son of vice president Joe Biden, died of brain cancer after serving in Iraq in the vicinity of burn pits. Even this tragedy, which is similar to many stories of exposure and death, never brought attention to the issue of burn pits.

Salon interviewed author Joseph Hickman, who provided even more shocking details, and how the Department of Defense (DoD) does all it can to keep this knowledge from the public.
“I think the Department of Defense does its best to squash this story and so does Veterans Affairs. They really don’t want this out at all.”

Hickson interviewed one former KBR employee who was very reluctant to even talk about burn pits for fear of repercussions, as he was harassed by KBR when he previously came forward about the issue. By using private contractors for such operations, the DoD facilitates these egregious assaults on human and environmental health because contractors are not held to the standards of the military.
This dependency on contractors feeds their tendency for carelessness. According to Hickson, the upper management said at one point, “If they’re going to investigate us over these burn pits, don’t worry about it. If we pull out, they can’t run this base.
The U.S. government, in its effort to conceal the impact of burn pits, even managed to influence a World Health Organization report that downplayed the effects. It stands in stark contrast to several independent researchers who found large increases in birth defects, leukemia, cancer and other carcinogenic diseased in populations living near burn pits.
“There’s a large group of epidemiologists that absolutely believe that that report was influenced by the U.S. government. Dr. Mozhgan Savabieasfahani, a widely respected environmental toxicologist, has been there and seen the birth defects and how we literally destroyed that country with pollution. There are birth defects there that don’t even have medical names yet.”

The evidence compiled by Hickson and presented in his book makes it downright criminal for the DoD and politicians to continue denying the issue. When veterans suffering from burn-pit illnesses contact their Congressmen, there is silence because they are in bed with the defense industry.

General David Petraeus and other top DoD officials have denied the health effects of burn pits, but veterans have no recourse because they can’t sue the government. There is a lawsuit against KBR, but the DoD will not acknowledge that the burn pits were misused.
While politicians and military brass issue patriotic platitudes about honoring those who serve their country, the reality is that soldiers are just a name and a number, and they’re thrown away when the military machine is done with them. Defense corporations reap billions as veterans and local populations suffer sickness and death.

Please share this article in the hope that exposure can force accountability for the toxic legacy of burn pits.

The Spoils of War...

As a former military budget officer, I saw wasted spending all the time.  To deny our children a fair and equal opportunity to advance their education will not only stunt their growth but will further demoralize their Spirit.  Instead, trillions are being wasted in the coffers of the Military Industrialized Complex!!

Native American - Honoring our Ancestors, Culture & Spirituality

It's Presidents Day today and it's time to hand out our HALL OF SHAME award and it goes to Andrew Jackson, our 7th US President. Bloody, bloody Andrew Jackson was a very wealthy slave owner and infamous Indian killer. Jackson was given the name "Sharp Knife" by the Cherokee. His first effort at Indian fighting was waging a war against the Creeks. President Jefferson had appointed him to appropriate Creek and Cherokee lands. In his brutal military campaigns against the Indians, Andrew Jackson recommended that the troops systematically kill the Indian women and children after order to complete the "extermination." The Creeks lost 23 million acres of land in southern Georgia and central Alabama, paving the way for cotton plantation slavery.

Jackson was not only a genocidal maniac against the Indigenous Peoples of the southwest, he was also racist against African peoples and a scofflaw who “violated nearly every standard of justice,” according to historian Bertram Wyatt-Brown. As a major general in 1818, Jackson invaded Spanish Florida chasing fugitive slaves who had escaped with the intent of returning them to their “owners,” and sparked the First Seminole War. During the conflict, Jackson captured two British men, Alexander George Arbuthnot and Robert C. Ambrister, who were living among the Seminoles. The Seminoles had resisted Jackson’s invasion of their land. One of the men had written about his support for the Seminoles’ land and treaty rights in letters found on a boat. Jackson used this “evidence” to accuse the men of “inciting” the Seminoles to “savage warfare” against the U.S. He convened a special court martial tribunal then had the men executed. He swept through Florida, crushed the Indians, executed Arbuthnot and Ambrister, violating nearly every standard of justice.

In 1830, a year after he became president, Jackson signed into law the Indian Removal Act – which legalized ethnic cleansing (example: Christian Boarding Schools), stripping Native children and toddler of their culture and identities, torture, rape and inflicting diseases on them by handing them small pox infested blankets. These children were severely beaten and punished when caught speaking their Native language. Many of these children did not survive.Within seven years 46,000 indigenous people were forcefully removed from their homelands east of the Mississippi. Their removal gave 25 million acres of land “to white settlement and to slavery. The area was home to the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Seminole nations. In the Trail of Tears alone, over 4,000 Cherokee people died of cold, hunger, and disease on their way to the western lands. That figure does not include the deaths of the Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek and Seminole on their own Trail of Tears. Jackson's face appears on the $20 bill and this country celebrates with a Federal holiday for this homicidal maniac.

My thoughts

When I saw this article on my facebook feed my Spirit told me to share it.

I was born and raised in Northeast Georgia, in a historic town where Cherokee Natives once lived and prospered. Long before the Jackson massacre or Civil War. I'm part Cherokee, African and Caucasian. The mixture is prominent on both sides of my bloodline.

After the dust settled on Jackson's "Reign of Terror," those Cherokees who "passed" (mixed with European and African alike) were able to avoid further genocide of our people (which we now know was ordered by the federal government) by learning to live and work together.

Growing up in the Northeast suburbs helped to preserve my Native Indian bloodline and temper my African Spirit. But unfortunately throughout my life, society's stereotypes, labels and mistreatment of minorities across the board, especially those of African-American descendent, kept me alienated from my true roots, most importantly my Native Cherokee culture and heritage.  I was born and raised in a majority Caucasian and African-American Community.

After spending 20 years serving in the US military, I've since returned home to my Native roots and the Spirits of our Ancestors literally speak to me. Each day of my Awakening is a new day of Enlightenment, Liberation and Acceptance.

It has been said by many Great Chiefs that the "Spirits of our Ancestors" are all around us. I've learned to embrace the teachings of their wisdom since my Spiritual Awakening and I'm finally coming into acceptance of my heritage.

I live on sacred (now burial) land where our ancestors once lived and the resonance I feel from their energy is Loving, Caring, Harmonious and most of all Forgiving!

We were and Always will Be a Loving Nation!!! #ProudToBeCherokee

Earth, I Love Her
© 2015  Sy’needa Penland

So vast is her beauty.
So deep are her depths.
The essence of life
is with her every breath.

So sweet are her songs
As she radiates
All day long.

Somber she sleeps,
To her oceans she weeps;
Calming her core
From her mountainous peaks.
Earth, I Love Her!

Creator of all things,
Mother of all beings,
Ruler of the sky,
From the Universe she brings;

And pain.

Healing her wombs
With her Earthly rains
As she cleanse our souls
Thus once again.

I Love Her!!

Civil Rights "Activist??!!" John Lewis Knows on Which Side His Biscuit is Buttered

I totally agree with her comments and I'm deeply appalled at the hypocrisy of certain key members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Since Dr. King's tragic and untimely death, they've yet to get KEY legislation passed through Congress, for instance a Human Rights Bill, which will address over 90% of America's real issues, across all races, much less the ill treatment against our Military Veteran community, both on and off active duty.

The Atlanta VA hospital, which is located in Congressman Lewis', district has an enormous backlog of compensation claims, countless complaints, high turnover of its medical staff and a laundry list of other major problems.   Yet the Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus, see fit to sign off on a lucrative defense contract to name a fleet of "Oilers"  after American Civil Rights Activist, most recently Congressman John Lewis, who never served a day in the military.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, left, talks with Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., during a ceremony on Capitol Hill in Washington on Wednesday to announce that the next generation of fleet replenishment oilers will be named the USNS John Lewis, after the civil rights movement leader and Georgia's 5th District representative.(Photo: Jacquelyn Martin/AP)

So if the Secretary Mabus is being so generous with his support of the African American Civil Rights Movement, then why continue to deny me my hard earned retirement pension?!!

2016 Obama plans to take America down

America's National Debt and How its Linked to Military Fraud

After watching our National Debt counter rise by the millisecond, I couldn't help but wonder how bleak our children's future is going to be over the next decade.     :(

During the 13 years I served as a Navy budget officer,  I witnessed systemic fraud being committed by senior officers.  By the time I reported to my last duty assignment I'd seen enough and ultimately decided to put my life and career on the line to investigate and officially report to the Department of Defense, Inspector General and Department of Justice, Anti-Trust Division (via a Qui Tam lawsuit), thousands of official documents to substantiate my investigation of their criminal activity.

Those involved in the notorious "Fat Leonard" investigation are not the only ones committing fraud against the government!!

What I uncovered was not only criminal, it was intentional!!

Nowadays in the defense industry, greed has no limitations!!   Which is evident throughout our defense agencies, "defense contracting services" spewing throughout Capitol Hill.  Providing a new breeding ground for  unscrupulous retired officers.  Affording them the opportunity to  "double dip" from the defense slush fund, depending on their age “triple dip”, if they are eligible to draw social security, and/or veteran's benefits.

Meanwhile, since my discharge from the Navy, I’ve become receptive to the voices of America's working class, where hundreds of thousands of families are struggling to make ends meet and can barely feed their families, much less pay for basic education beyond high school.  Yes, our educational system is systemically designed to cater to the country’s Class Warfare, and elite.  I digress….

As a military budget officer, when you are told, "You will not be allocated the same annual budget next year, unless you spend just as much money this year," greed will reinvent itself ever time. And unscrupulous military officers will find clever ways to steal from the pockets our hard working citizens.  Which is what my memoir "Broken Silence, A Military Whistleblower's Fight For Justice" is about:  "Senior Navy officers colluding  with a Prime Vendor logistics services company (bid rigging a defense contract) to provide a multitude of logistics contracting services, along with coordinating their  "post government employment."

The rigged contract that I highlight in my memoir, had no "oversight" by the Pentagon's (NAVSEA) Core official, who was getting cancer treatment at the time the "rigged contract” was approved by a former Pentagon program manager, who worked for the CNO's office, and was rehired by the logistics services company as a senior consultant advisor while in a terminal leave status, prior to his official retirement.

But he was not the only one defrauding our taxpayers!!

There were a number of Supply officers and Surface Warfare officers colluding with the executive staff and CEO (a retired Supply Officer of the Veteran's Own, logistics services company) to ensure the approval of the multi-logistics services contract. Which was later called a "Merger", or amendment to a pre-existing contract.

During the nearly 3-year negotiation, key military staff members were able to secure a lucrative position within the company, of course at a "hefty price!!"

Since the approval of the contract, the company has managed to increase its annual million dollar revenue to a multi-billion dollar industry.    Talk about a major contributor to our national debt!!!

Keys to a Successful
Post Military Employment
Retirement Plan

And, “How to get away with it!!"

While in an active duty status!!
Ø       Identify a foreseeable need or “deficiency”...    Keep it a Secret!

Ø      Canvas resources.   Recruit…   Recruit…  Recruit…

Ø   Routinely network with contractors and/or retired or active duty officers to “pitch your idea” (in confidence of course) to see who's on-board with your plan.  The informal interview is to also ensure the potential candidate(s) possess the right qualifications, experience, etc. to fulfill the requirements of the “deficiency.”  The “deficiency” should align with the Pentagon’s evolving War initiatives.

Ø  Create the need” by over amplifying the “deficiency” in your operational reports to the Pentagon.  This will allow “your idea” to be included in the Pentagon’s future operational objectives.  Ensure you are in a position of influence.   Typically the best position of influence is that of the Commanding Officer (Unit Commander) or Operational Program Manager, depending on the mission at the time.

Ø    Endorse “your idea” (with the cooperation of the Comptroller or Budget Officer of course) and present the contract bid proposals to the Pentagon's Approving Officials.  Make sure you include within the bid proposal package, your new position (typically consultant advisor), lucrative annual salary and all the other bennies your greedy heart desires!!

Little Known Black History Fact...

Henrietta Lacks (1920-1951) was a black tobacco farmer from Southern Virginia who got cervical cancer and died when she was 31. Before her death, a doctor treating her at Johns Hopkins, took a piece of her tumor without telling her because he realized that her cells, unlike everyone else’s, never died. These cells named HeLa after Henrietta Lacks, have been replicated millions of times to create an endless supply of “immortal cells.” Before HeLa cells, scientists spent more time trying to keep cells alive than performing actual research on cells. In 1952, the worst year of the polio epidemic, Dr. Jonas Salk used HeLa cells to develop a vaccine for Polio. Other HeLa cells have been used as the basic cells that established the process of cloning and in vitro fertilization. HeLa cells were also used to determine that humans have 46 chromosomes and provided the basis for making several types of genetic diagnoses. HeLa cells have been used to repair DNA and have been used in Anti-cancer drugs. Although pharmaceutical companies have made billions of dollars from replicating & selling HeLa cells, Henrietta’s family has never been compensated. It wasn’t until recently that they even knew her cells were being used. In 2010, Rebecca Skloot wrote the book: “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks,” detailing her life. Oprah Winfrey in conjunction with HBO is developing a film project based on Skloot’s book. In 2013, a settlement with the family has given them some control over the use of HeLa cells, but still no financial reward. She is arguably the most influential person in medicine that the world doesn’t even know.
