Huffingtonpost.com reports--BURKESVILLE, Ky. — Authorities in southern Kentucky say a 2-year-old girl has been accidentally shot and killed by her 5-year-old brother, who was playing with a .22-caliber rifle he received as a gift.
Kentucky State Police said the toddler was shot just after 1 p.m. CDT Tuesday in Cumberland County and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Cumberland County Coroner Gary White told the Lexington Herald-Leader that the children's mother was at home at the time.
White told the newspaper that the boy received the rifle made for youths last year and is used to shooting it. He said the gun was kept in a corner and the family didn't realize a shell was left inside it.
White said the shooting will be ruled accidental.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Food for thought:  You got to be killing me.  Who gives a 5 year old son a shotgun as a gift?!  Only in the South!!
If the kid knew how to use this weapon, who's to say the shooting was accidental? I've witnessed and personally experienced jealousy amongst siblings, how many famous celebrities were killed by a family member?  For every second it takes the Obama administration to enforce better gun laws, another life is at risk!

This is why the federal government needs to enforce better guns laws. You have a case of a small rural town where everyone knows everyone and the sheriff department is beyond sympathetic to a mother losing her two children, one by the murderous hands of another, and one to the slammer. Sadly enough Hollywood has shown us the effects of a "good seed and a bad seed". There is more to this story, which is why I think this matter needs to be investigated by the State's DA.
