U.S. sailors sue Tokyo Electric Power Company over radiation exposure

Over the weekend, the military tabloid, Navytimes reported--"A group of sailors who served aboard the aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan after a massive earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown in Japan in 2011 is suing Tokyo Electric Power Co. for allegedly conspiring to lie or mislead the public about the extent of radiation exposure.
The sailors, in a 36-page complaint filed Dec. 21 in U.S. District Court in San Diego, say TEPCO was negligent after the March 11, 2011, disaster and allege company officials knew the potential health risks but convinced others and “lulled” the Navy into “a false sense of security.”
The group includes eight Reagan crew members and the infant daughter of a female boatswain’s mate who worked on the flight deck and was pregnant during the deployment. They allege they were “poisoned” and exposed to radiation released by the damaged reactors and cooling mechanisms at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
They claim the company failed to warn them of potential harm during the humanitarian and disaster relief effort called Operation Tomodachi.
Despite reports of leaking radiation from the Fukushima plant, TEPCO and government officials at the time dismissed or minimized concerns about radiation exposures, the sailors claim in the lawsuit, “despite the fact that the defendant knew that higher levels of radiation existed within the area whereat the plaintiffs and their vessel would be and were operating.”
TEPCO “was aware that exposure to even a low dose of radiation creates a danger to one’s health and that is important to accurately report actual levels,” they also allege. TEPCO and the government of Japan “conspired... to create an illusory impression that the extent of radiation that had leaked... was at levels that would not pose a threat to the plaintiffs.”
Paul C. Garner, an Encinitas, Calif., attorney who is representing the sailors, said a copy of the complaint was delivered to TEPCO’s office in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 21.
A TEPCO spokesman, Yusuke Kunikage told Bloomberg News on Dec. 27 that company officials had not received the complaint but said “we will consider a response after examining the claim.”
The claim seeks a jury trial along with damages, including $40 million in compensatory and punitive damages for each plaintiff and the establishment by TEPCO of a $100 million fund to cover any of their medical and treatment costs."

Obama Signs FISA Warrantless Wiretapping Program Extension Into Law

Yesterday, reported -- "President Barack Obama has signed into law a five-year extension of the U.S. government's authority to monitor the overseas activity of suspected foreign spies and terrorists.
The warrantless intercept program would have expired at the end of 2012 without the president's approval. The renewal bill won final passage in the Senate on Friday.
Known as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the law allows the government to monitor overseas phone calls and emails without obtaining a court order for each intercept.
The law does not apply to Americans. When Americans are targeted for surveillance, the government must get a warrant from a special 11-judge court of U.S. district judges appointed by the Supreme Court.

Food for thought:  I would like to see the warrant that ordered my surveillance over the past year!

Hillary Clinton Hospitalized With Blood Clot

ABC news reported --"Secretary Hillary Clinton was hospitalized today after a doctors doing a follow-up exam discovered a blood clot had formed, stemming from the concussion she sustained several weeks ago.
She is being treated with anti-coagulants and is at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital so that they can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours, Deputy Assistant Secretary Philippe Reines said.
Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion. They will determine if any further action is required, Reines said.
Clinton, 65, originally fell ill from a stomach virus following a whirlwind trip to Europe at the beginning of the month, which caused such severe dehydration that she fainted and fell at home, suffering a concussion. No ambulance was called and she was not hospitalized, according to a state department official.
The stomach virus had caused Clinton to cancel a planned trip to North Africa and the United Arab Emirates, and also her scheduled testimony before Congress at hearings on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
According to a U.S. official, the secretary had two teams of doctors, including specialists, examine her after the fall.  They also ran tests to rule out more serious ailments beyond the virus and the concussion. During the course of the week after her concussion, Clinton was on an IV drip and being monitored by a nurse, while also recovering from the pain caused by the fall."

Food for thought:  I'm sure we all remember when British born actress, Natasha Richardson, she passed away after sustaining a head injury during a skiing accident. An autopsy report later revealed her cause of death was an "epidural hematomal", due to blunt impact to the head."  She wasn't wearing a helmet while learning to ski.

Let us be thankful that Hillary is being treated for her head injury!  I wish the former First Lady a speedy recovery, good health and a blessed New Year!

How to recognize symptoms of a stroke

A close friend emailed me the below message, asking if I would share this story with my family and close friends.  Because my family and I witnessed; firsthand, something similar to this story, I decided to re-emphasize the importance of learning how to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

By knowing these simple techniques, you could possibly help save a life.  Just ask my mother, who’s a 3 year survivor of a hemorrhagic stroke brought on by a brain aneurysm.  From what my mom recalls, the near fatal symptoms were caused by a faulty cpap device used to treat her for sleep apnea.

My family and I are extremely thankful for God’s Grace, giving us another day, another year, to celebrate GOD's Glory; by blessing my mother with a second chance at life.

Lord thank you and we are truly blessed!

Stroke has a new indicator!

They say if you forward this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life. Will you send this along?

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue:

“During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this.

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to

T *Ask the person to
(i.e. Chicken Soup)

R *Ask him or her to

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke --------
Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.
If the tongue is
'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

I have done my part. Will you?

Robin Roberts Embraces New Bold, But Beautiful Hairstyle

Robin Roberts Bald

Robin Roberts Bald Hairstyle reports--Robin Roberts from ABC's Good Morning America is back with a new hairstyle after undergoing a bone marrow transplant. The radiation caused her to lose all her hair, but that's not stopping her from being beautiful. She lost her mom earlier this year, and has been on medical leave since September due to her illness, but has turned the ordeal into an opportunity to inspire others. And it's working. Her millions of fans are amazed at her strength and determination to survive. She recently made an appearance at the wedding of one of her co-hosts, weatherman Sam Champion, in New York City
Food for thought:  Robin is truly a woman of strength and courage, she serves as an inspiration to us all!  May God continue to bless her and I wish her the best throughout her recovery!

Panetta orders action after sex assault report release

Over the weekend, reported-- U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has asked military service academies for a "strong and immediate response" after a report released Friday showed the three schools had a 23-percent spike in reported sexual assaults this year.

The Defense Department's "Annual Report on Sexual Harassment and Violence at the Military Service Academies" found 80 reports of sexual assault during 2011-2012 academic year at the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.  The number of incidents, which involved mainly female cadets or midshipmen, increased for the third straight year and was up from 65 reports in the 2010-2011 academic year.

Read full article here:

Food for thought:  As an advocate against workplace abuse, I find this report extremely appalling and pray top military officials finally get their acts together to put an end to the abuse against our service women.

Unfortunately military personnel are not afforded to same equal employment rights as other Americans.  This is because of  the 1965 Equal Employment Opportunity Act, which prohibits active duty military personnel from seeking resolution with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Similar to the 1950 Feres Doctrine, which prohibits military personnel from suing the federal government for malpractice, military personnel have to rely on "bias" officials within the Defense Department to investigate their claims of workplace abuse.  As this article clearly demonstrates, their voices are still being silenced!!

The Art of Forgiveness

© 2012 Syneeda Penland

Hidden behind a mask,
your face I dare reveal,
will you tear my heart into pieces,
my identity will you steal?

To practice you is an art,
one I've yet to master,
the wrath your kin left behind
was an emotional disaster.

Hate is your brother,
human kind he does not pity,
he dwells within each of us
his nickname is, “misery.”

He's afraid to be left alone
afraid he'll be forgotten,
his stench is so foul
his soul is dead and rotten.

Peace is your sister,
she forever shines her light.
If you look up at the stars at night
her heart shines so bright.

Protected by their Mother “Earth”,
Love is her name;
embarassed by her son Hate
she lives quietly in shame.

Forgiveness is your father,
he’ll rescue you from pain.
He’ll deliver you from your past
and will embrace with his name!

He’ll wash away your sins
a new life he will restore,
call out to him in your time of need,
he’ll forgive you now
and forever more.

In San Francisco and Oakland on Saturday, citizens brought their guns to sell to the police in return for cash. Every volunteer who returned a gun was $200 richer walking away. The line was so long in San Francisco that there was no cash left after lunchtime and I.O.U.s were substituted instead.

Oakland’s citizens gave even more guns back, including assault weapons and Ak-47s; the line of people returning guns, which was comprised of those standing and those in cars, was almost two miles long. A limit of three per person was imposed.
Oakland’s police chief, Howard Jordan, said, "When we remove guns off our streets that could be used in a crime, we reduce the possibility of our youth and community being a victim.”
There’s only one problem with this scenario: in all likelihood, it’s the law-abiding citizens returning guns. The criminals are not about to surrender theirs. All reports from the scene quote people who were highly unlikely to use their firearms for criminal activity in the first place.

Columbine student's father, 12 years later

One of my facebook friends shared this today...

"Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact.

What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws.

Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him.

To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

- Darrell Scott

Morehouse College to Offer Course in Black LGBT History, Culture

The course will help bring to light LGBT figures who have been overlooked. reports--Morehouse College, a historically African-American school, will offer a course in black LGBT history and culture beginning in the spring semester.
Yale University professor Jafari S. Allen will teach the class via Skype, reports The Maroon Tiger, Atlanta-based Morehouse’s student newspaper. “He’s very interested in gender nonconformity among people of color, and I’m interested in that as well,” said Marcus Lee, special project and events coordinator for SafeSpace, Morehouse’s gay-straight alliance, who brought Allen into the project.
Allen told the paper, “What you call ‘human rights advocacy’ is for me just trying to be a responsible person in the world to point out and perhaps, in some cases, also to attempt to help to fix injustices. While this may be controversial in some academic settings where there is the pretension of a kind of nonpolitical educational project, this has never been the case for Morehouse or for any historically black institution. So it is essential for Morehouse students, faculty, administrators, and alumni to engage [in] this conversation.”
SafeSpace public relations director Ja’Mal Lewis said the course will bring visibility to black LGBT leaders who have been overlooked. “Many influential LGBT leaders have gone unrecorded due to their sexuality, and they made many of the movements that changed and shaped our history,” he said.

We are a violent country; that is our history & our present. It is internalized in all of us. We kill for money, for power, for influence & for attention. I say "we" because I am a taxpayer & my money supports wars abroad as well as mass incarceration at home. Time to stop acting surprised when Americans kill children on our own lands; we do it abroad in the name of "anti terrorism" "foreign aid" & "democracy" everyday. On every continent. Indigenous children are most often the ones under attack, simply because their existence challenges America's reign of superiority. Until our culture learns to value human life over currency & power, this will be our reality.

True, a country built on dehumanization is likely to perpetuate cycles of violence. There is hope though, because culture is not set in stone! We are subject to it, but we also shape it. Banning weapons is not culture shaping, it is just law. Shaping culture starts with how we educate our youth on how to place value on community & our place in Mother Nature. & we must speak truthfully about our history. Do not lose hope, fam. Let's get educated on this issue of violence...

Even at home, we criminalize our youth before they even know how to read, destining them for a future in prison or 6 feet under. Do you value all life the same? Do you think things have no value except as commodity? Do you think children whose parents don't like America's policies of violence deserve to die? Let's change what we teach our future generations so that they don't have to wake up everyday in the middle of multiple wars. All it takes is a willingness to change how we treat each other & how we perceive ourselves. Life is too beautiful to keep robbing children of their futures. Peace.

Jada Pinkett-Smith: The War on Men Through the Degradation of Woman

Earlier this month reported:

As we look at societies where the women are lost, struggling for education and otherwise disregarded, versus those who consider women the center of their communities, Jada‘s words ring all the more truer.

Read what she has to say below:

"How is man to recognize his full self, his full power through the eye’s of an incomplete woman? The woman who has been stripped of Goddess recognition and diminished to a big ass and full breast for physical comfort only.

The woman who has been silenced so she may forget her spiritual essence because her words stir too much thought outside of the pleasure space. The woman who has been diminished to covering all that rots inside of her with weaves and red bottom shoes.

I am sure the men, who restructured our societies from cultures that honored woman, had no idea of the outcome. They had no idea that eventually, even men would render themselves empty and longing for meaning, depth and connection.

There is a deep sadness when I witness a man that can’t recognize the emptiness he feels when he objectifies himself as a bank and truly believes he can buy love with things and status. It is painful to witness the betrayal when a woman takes him up on that offer.

He doesn’t recognize that the [creation] of a half woman has contributed to his repressed anger and frustration of feeling he is not enough. He then may love no woman or keep many half women as his prize.

He doesn’t recognize that it’s his submersion in the imbalanced warrior culture, where violence is the means of getting respect and power, as the reason he can break the face of the woman who bore him four children.

When woman is lost, so is man. The truth is, woman is the window to a man’s heart and a man’s heart is the gateway to his soul.

Power and control will NEVER out weigh love.

May we all find our way."

How to Decalcify and Detoxify the Pineal Gland

The primary goal of decalcifying your pineal gland is so that you can begin the process of pineal gland activation and begin the awakening of your third eye.

There are two parts to pineal gland decalcification. The first is to stop any further calcification of your pineal gland which is caused by any lifestyle habits or environmental factors, e.g. flouride, etc. The second step is to work on reducing and removing the existing calcification and help to further develop your pineal gland.

Below we will go through the methods you can take to achieve these two steps.

STEP 1 – Stop further calcification of your Pineal Gland
The key to stopping further calcification of your pineal gland is to firstly identify what causes calcification, and then secondly stopping these sources. Generally speaking, it is a person’s diet (food/drink) and lifestyle that causes calcification.

Below is a list of the primary causes of calcification:

Halides are chemical substances such as Flouride, Chlorine and Bromide. They all seem to have similar effects on the pineal gland, so it’s important to remove these from your diet.
Flouride is the most common and widespread in our diets.

It is magnetically attracted to the pineal gland more so than any other part of the body. Here it forms calcium phosphate crystals which accumulate.Fluoride is present in toothpastes and tap water. It’s a heavy duty poison and should be avoided at all costs as it calcifies the pineal tissue and basically shuts the gland down. Switch to a fluoride-free toothpaste and drink spring water or filtered water (see ‘Tap Water’ section below for more information).

Woman injured while having sex on overnight work trip can sue employer

Australian court rules that woman, who was hurt when light fitting fell on her during sex in a motel, is entitled to compensation
An Australian woman who was injured while having sex on an overnight work trip has won the right to compensation after a court dismissed her employer's argument that her injuries had not been sustained as part of her job.
The woman, who can't be named for legal reasons, was hurt when a glass light fitting fell on her during sex in a motel on an overnight trip five years ago. She was treated in hospital for injuries to her nose and face and later suffered depression and was unable to continue in her job. She filed a case for compensation against her employer, a federal government agency, for her physical and psychological injuries.
On the night in question in 2007, the woman was staying at a motel in the country town of Nowra, 100 miles south of Sydney. She had dinner with a man and then invited him back to her room where they had sex, during which a light fitting above the bed fell on her.
In a statement, heard by a court in 2011, the man said he wasn't sure how the light fell: "I think she was on her back when it happened but I was not paying attention because we were rolling around," he said.
His statement added that they had been "going hard" and he wasn't sure if they had bumped the light or if it had just fallen off.
The woman's employer had initially accepted her claim for compensation, but later reversed its decision, saying the injury happened outside the course of her official duties.
When the case went to court in 2011, the woman's lawyer, Leo Grey, said there was no suggestion the woman was engaged in any misconduct. He said she had been injured while engaging in "lawful sexual activity" and that there had "not been any rule that employees should not have anyone else in their room without express permission of their department".
"This is not the 1920s, after all," Grey told the court. Grey argued that sex was "an ordinary incident of life" commonly undertaken in a motel room at night, like sleeping or showering.
lawyers acting for ComCare, the woman's workplace insurer, argued that while people needed to sleep, eat and attend to their personal hygiene, they did not "need to have sex".
The federal court judged that it did not matter whether she spent her evenings having sex or "playing card games", she was still, in effect, at work. "In the absence of any misconduct, or an intentionally self-inflicted injury, the fact that the applicant was engaged in sexual activity rather than some other lawful recreational activity while in her motel room does not lead to any different result," Justice John Nicholas said.
Comcare was ordered to pay costs and must now appeal to the high court if it wants to overturn the decision.
Its spokesman told Fairfax Media the agency was reviewing the judgment. "The issue is a significant one. Workers need to be clear about their entitlements and employers should have an understanding of their responsibilities and how to support their staff," he said.
Food for thought:  Only in America, can a single women (in the military) be charged, fined, imprisoned and be forced to forfeit her hard earned retirement benefits on specious allegations of committing adultery.  Different strokes for different folks!

Prayer for Forgiveness

Lord, you are a forgiving God,
So I come today asking for your forgiveness.
Father, my desire is to do your will,
to be more like you, and to please you in every way.

Father I know that you hate sin,
but I thank you, for loving me unconditionally,
despite the wrong I may do.

I know that it is your desire that I be holy, as you are holy,
So Father I ask that you would wash me
and cleanse me of all unrighteousness.

Forgive me for using my words as weapons
instead of for encouragement,
Forgive me for any thoughts that caused you shame,
Forgive me if I repaid evil for evil instead of doing good.
Search my heart oh God,
and reveal to me anything that is not pleasing to you.

(Take a moment right here and listen to what God reveals to you,
if God brings any sin to your mind include it in your prayer)

Thank you Father for forgiving me,
for washing and cleansing me;
Thank you for loving me even when I fall short of your glory,
Thank you Lord that you keep no record of my wrong,
Thank you that I am a new creature through Christ Jesus.

I love you Father and I know that you love me,
I will bless your name forever more,

A special poem for ALL our Children around the World

Still is the Moment in Time
© Syneeda Penland 2010

Abandoned like a wondering child
no one there to hear his cry,
isolated from the rest of the world.

Pain is the darkness revealed,
from a single look into the eye
of an abandoned boy or girl.

Still is the moment in time
when there’s no motion, no feelings,
life passes us by.

To care and show emotion for their suffering,
it’ll break your heart and make you cry.

To watch the sadness in their eyes
your heart aches, from the madness
of the rest of the world.
In all the confusion, from the illusion
that the world really cares.

Do we ignore the cry from their pain
or the aching in their heart?
They’re all alone in the cold,
left abandoned in the dark.

Rescue the lonely child,
give them hope
that they can change the world,
from all the confusion, and the illusion
to show them, the world really cares.
